When all is said and done, I lot more is said than done!

“We pray that our God will make your fit for what he’s called you to be (and to do). Pray that he’ll fill your good ideas and acts of faith with his own energy so that it all amounts to something.” 2 Thessalonians 1:11 MSG.

I added the words “and to do” as the truth in this verse applies to both who we are and what we do. Who we are in Jesus and who He is in us should, by His grace, give birth to both ideas and action regarding who we are becoming and what we are doing.

We don’t want ideas to just stay ideas, but lead to acts of faith as we are filled with His energy and it all (ideas and acts) amount to something for His honor and the advancement of His kingdom.

I recently ran across what follows from James Clear, author of “Atomic Habits” which is an excellent read for those of us who want to break bad habits which are holding us down and holding us back, while we build good habits which  move us forward.

With His help, we want to “just do it” as the Nike logo says,  and not spend too much time thinking about doing “it” instead of just doing it!

From James Clear:

A programmer and writer who goes by Loopy, shared the difference between preparing to do it and actually doing it:

“Things that aren’t doing the thing:

  • Preparing to do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Scheduling time to do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Making a to-do list for the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Telling people you’re going to do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Messaging friends who may or may not be doing the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Writing a banger tweet about how you’re going to do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Hating on yourself for not doing the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Hating on other people who have done the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Hating on the obstacles in the way of doing the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Fantasizing about all of the adoration you’ll receive once you do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Reading about how to do the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Reading about how other people did the thing isn’t doing the thing.
  • Reading this essay isn’t doing the thing.

The only thing that is doing the thing is doing the thing.”

How many ideas are you currently sitting on as you make excuses for yourself instead of stepping out and

Just Doing It?
