Several years ago, one of my mentors (Paul Stanley) passed away. For many years, he had a prayer pasted in his Bible that reminded him to have his identity in Jesus and not in what people thought about him—which is such a temptation for any leader. Before Paul went to be with Jesus, he took this prayer from his Bible and gave it to a close friend who read it at Paul’s memorial service. As soon as I heard it, I knew I would memorize it and pray it for myself every day—which I have done. Here it is:
Lord, I renounce my desire for human praise, for the approval of my peers, my need for public recognition. I deliberately put these aside today—content to hear your whisper, well done my faithful servant.
I can’t begin to tell you how much this short but profound prayer has impacted my life and walk with Jesus!
