“I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one.”-John 17:15, NLT
Jesus, this takes me back to 1 Chronicles 4:10, from which I am praying for:
- Anointing
- Opportunities
- Protection from Sin
I am thinking here of protection from sin! 1 Peter 5:8 springs to mind; the enemy is quietly waiting for his chance to trip me up. By your Grace, keep me safe from his subtle tactics and sly techniques.
“…so that we would not be outwitted by Satan; for we are not ignorant by his designs.” 2 Corinthians 2:11, ESV
How about making a list of the kinds of things that can give the devil an opportunity (a foothold) in your life; Ephesians 4:27.
Here are the four things I pray for myself most every day:
- I pray for purity and against lust
- I pray for humility and against pride
- I pray for contentment and against greed
- I pray for patience and against anger
I want to be a Leader Who Lasts, and a leader who has come to the conclusion that one of the above four “footholds” could be my undoing:
Lust – Pride – Greed – Anger
I am keenly aware that my enemy, Satan, is biding his time and waiting for an opportune moment (like a crouching lion) to attack. I don’t want to be outwitted or ignorant.
It is interesting to note that 1 Peter 5:8 (where we are cautioned to be “sober-minded and watchful”) is in the middle of a chapter concerning leadership. The enemy has his sights set on leaders…his primary target.
