A verse I return to over and over is 2 Corinthians 1: 12, “For our boast is this: the testimony of our conscience that we behaved in the world with simplicity and godly sincerity, not by earthly wisdom, but by the grace of God, and supremely so toward you.”-ESV. (Underlining is mine).
What would it look like for me to live a life in, and with, Jesus that is simple and sincere?
Simple~Life for me easily gets complicated, and overwhelming; so many things to do; so many options, so many voices calling my name; so little time-or at least it seems that way.
How do I de-clutter my life and my schedule? How do I, with His help, keep the main thing the main thing as Steven Covey says. How do I stay true to my calling, purpose and vision and at the same time be open to God’s divine interruptions?
Sincere~In Spanish the word sincere is made up of two words, Sin and Cera. Sin means without and Cera is wax; hense without wax. Years ago when a piece of cracked pottery was being sold, a person might cover the crack with wax to hide the imperfection. If the pottery was honestly sold it was advertised as “without wax;” what you see is what it really is; no cover-ups, no hiding anything, no playing games or trying to fool anybody.
When I think of Sincere, I am reminded of 2 Corinthians 4:2 in The Message, “We refuse to wear masks and play games. We don’t maneuver and manipulate behind the scenes. We don’t twist God’s word to suit ourselves. Rather we keep everything we do and say out in the open, the whole truth on display, so that those who want to can see and judge for themselves in the presence of God.”
I am praying that the Lord would continue to teach and show me how to live my life simply and sincerely.
