W. Somerset Maugham made the statement that the story of the human race is the story of men and women selling themselves short.  I tend to agree.  In general, I believe that people think too little of themselves rather than too highly. We can cower in fear while God-given opportunities pass us by.

Jesus has given each of his followers a musical score to be played, profited from and enjoyed by others. There is no such thing as an ungifted Christ-follower.

Living in fear

For years I lived in fear of failure, fear of rejection, fear of what others would think about me if I did this or that or said this or that. Proverbs 29:25 (ESV) says it well: “The fear of man lays a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is safe.”  The Message uses the phrase, “The fear of human opinion disables.” We have a lot of disabled Christians today who, as Mary Kay Ash said, “Go to their graves with their music still unplayed.” I love the thought In 1 Samuel 6:21 in the New Living Translation: “So I am willing to act like a fool in order to show my joy in the Lord.” When you receive an email from my cell phone, at the bottom you will see “Live Life Outloud!”

Here’s where I am

  • I am at that stage in my life where I am going for broke.

  • I want to play every note of music God placed within me.

  • I don’t want fear of man or fear of anything else to disable me.

  • I want to dream of things I have never dreamed of, try things I have never tried, go places I have never been.

All of this empowered by His Holy Spirit and for His glory. Will I fail? Of course I will…so what!  Babe Ruth, the home run king for years, also held the strike out record!

Don’t wait until it’s too late to go for it.  Go now! When you get to the end of your life, you will probably regret the things you didn’t do rather than the things you did. So set sail for uncharted waters.  Let the safe shore fade into the distance. Don’t worry about failing…it’s the stuff success is made of.

A Sister Mary Corita print reads: “To believe in God is to know that all the rules will be fair and that there will be wonderful surprises.” Jesus has a surprise waiting for you!
