Years ago I heard Bill Hybels say that most of the people he knows are overwhelmed and over-committed.  I thought to myself…small world because he is in Chicago and I am in Seattle and he knows some of the same people I know. Most of the people I know are overwhelmed and over-committed.

Recently I read a statement by Seth Godin (author of “Tribes” and “Linchpin”) who said every 18 months for the last ten years the world has doubled the data it pushes your way.

Now I know why!

What this can mean is:

  1. Twice as many emails to sort through

  2. Twice as many phone calls you receive

  3. Twice as many solicitations from marketers

  4. Twice as many commercials on your favorite TV show

  5. Twice as many invites to Facebook groups

I could continue here, but you get the point! Enough is enough already!

We have all sensed we are being inundated with information and opportunities that overwhelm us and (if we respond) over -commit us.

Personally , I feel (at times) like I am laying on a beach trying to get a breath of air as wave after wave hits me.

Let’s dialogue about this. How are you coping? What are you doing to keep your sanity and life-balance? How are you deciding what to delete, read, respond to or commit to?  I would love to hear from you.
