Like many of you, I am focusing on ideas for 2024—dreaming, thinking, planning and praying about what I’d like to see happen in this new year. As I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I’m living with the tension between contentment and ambition.
I have desires, dreams, ideas of things I’d like to see God do in this new year; but, at the same time, I want to be content with what He allows or doesn’t allow. He is the Lord, not me, although the temptation is always there to try and run the show and tell Him what to do!
I like 1 Samuel 3:18 (ESV) in this regard, “It is the Lord. Let him do what seems good to him.”
As I listen to Him, I want to do what seems good to Him, not merely what seems good to me. Sometimes they are one and the same; other times my ego and ambition can run ahead of His plans for me.
A few days ago I was reviewing, praying over and thinking about Proverb 30:15 in The Passion Translation.
“There are three words to describe the greedy: ‘Give me more.’ There are some things that are never satisfied. Forever craving more, they’re unable to say, That’s enough.”
Here’s what I wrote in my journal after a few minutes of praying over and thinking about this verse.
“Jesus as I move into 2024, help me to trust you as I pray for more, but to be content knowing that you are sovereign and will provide whatever you think is best for me. Whatever you choose for me, help me to say “That’s enough” from my heart and mean it!”
I want more opportunities to impact and influence leaders, but more important than that, I want more:
- Power
- Grace
- Wisdom
- Anointing
- Sensitivity
- Humility
- Love
I want more in ’24!!!
