Now, wait a minute!

I Thought Part Of Being A Leader Was Being Certain…

  • About my calling
  • About my gifts
  • About my vision

It is! That’s what you’ve been told and taught and it’s good to have convictions and certainty about these things as He leads you and makes things clear for you.

You Can Also Be Certain About:

  • God’s love
  • God’s sovereignty
  • God’s justice
  • God’s forgiveness
  • God’s mercy
  • God’s power

But, At The Same Time There Are Some Things You Cannot And Will Not Be Certain About:

  • God’s timing on things
  • The degree of fruitfulness and influence you will or won’t have
  • Who the faithful ones will be over the long haul
  • Who the best leaders are
  • Which idea(s) will work and which won’t work

It serves leaders well to trust God when they don’t have all the answers…when they aren’t certain about whom to invest in…when they’re not sure as to what idea they should go with.

As A Leader, It Goes Better For You And With You When…

  • You can live with ambiguity
  • You can live with uncertainty
  • You can live with lack of clarity

…and it doesn’t sink you emotionally or spiritually.

I’ll be the first one to admit that, in my flesh, I hate ambiguity and uncertainty with a passion. But I’ve learned the hard way that I need to learn how to live with it, to the glory of God!

The bottom line is that God is God and you and I are not!

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” Proverbs 3:5,6 (ESV)

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” Isaiah 55:8,9 (ESV)
