“So I will work hard to make these things clear to you. I want you to remember them long after I am gone.“-2 Peter 1:15, NLT
Jesus, in my teaching, allow me to work hard in communicating well, keeping it simple and sharing it with the empowerment of your Holy Spirit. I want to leave a lasting legacy so people continue to remember and apply what they saw in me and heard from me…long after I’m gone–especially those in my own family.
+Additional thoughts:
I will celebrate my 73rd birthday next week. There is very much land yet to be taken for the kingdom (Joshua 13:1) and I’m going for it.
If there is one thing I’ve learned that can make or break an organization, church or group it is the lack of timely, thorough, concise and clear communication.
I was a Toastmaster for 18 years and in the world competition for best speaker, the speeches were only 5-7 minutes. It’s amazing what you can say in 5-7 minutes. It forces you to focus on what is truly important and say it as concisely and clearly as possible!
I often think of Genesis 11:6 where we read: “And the Lord said, ‘Behold they are one people, and they have all one language, and this is only the beginning of what they will do. And nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them.’ “
They are one people (commonality of purpose) and they have all one language (clarity of communication). Oh, the power of clear, concise, sufficient and timely communication in any team, group, organization or church.
Peter is stating that he wants to make things clear to them and he wants them to remember what he is sharing long after he is gone; leaving a lasting legacy!
Samuel Johnson said, “People need to be reminded more than they need to be taught.”
We already know way too much, as do those we lead. We need to continue to return to basic and foundational ideas as to why we do what we do and what the big picture is for what we are all about. Say it often, say it clearly, say it concisely and say it with passion for Jesus fame!
