John 11:14,15 (NLT)
“Then he told them plainly, ‘Lazarus is dead. And for your sake, I am glad I wasn’t there, because this will give you another opportunity to believe in me’…” (Underlining is mine)
Jesus, at times you don’t do things the way I would like or expect. You certainly don’t follow my pre-conceived timetable for things I am praying about!
This allows me to trust you and what you are doing and not trust my own thinking and reasoning. Sort of reminds me of Proverbs 3:5,6…trusting you and not my own understanding.
Lord, help me to recognize opportunities you provide to trust you more…to believe your promises and rest in your sovereignty.
Additional thoughts:
Jesus not showing up when expected was a good thing, not a bad thing, as Martha and Mary were thinking it was. It is so hard to wait patiently for His perfect timing and so easy to get ahead of Him and rush things.
Years ago the Lord impressed me with Isaiah 55:8, 9 (NLT) “My thoughts are completely different from yours,” says the Lord. “And my ways are far beyond anything you could imagine. For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.”
It seems I am often in too big a hurry to get somewhere or get something done and I confess and repent every time I get into that sinful frame of mind with my lack of patience and trust.
There is a part of me–a deep part–that wants to trust and wait patiently for His perfect timing, but it is a struggle!
In walking with God, sometimes he seems to walk awfully slow…he isn’t in a hurry as I often am. His way of operating and his sense of timing are so much better than mine.
A while back I wrote an article titled “He Hates to Wait.” You can find it under the “Articles” tab at davekraft.org.
Not waiting on God’s timing is still true for me, and it is still sinful for me, and reveals my lack of trust in the Lord who created time in the first place.
How are you doing on trusting God’s timetable? Love to hear from you via a comment below.
